Agera Energy competed in the Food Bank for Westchester’s “2017 Golden Scoop Challenge” against 13 other teams from corporations headquartered in Westchester County, New York on Friday, May 19th. The late afternoon event brought together various departments within Agera to come together as a team and strive to win the coveted ‘Golden Scoop’ and pack the most amount of food for our neighbors. The volunteers and teammates collaborated, planned and executed – filling bags and boxes of loose pasta to the tune of 1,206 lbs. in a one-hour period! While the Agera total of 1,206 lbs. of packed pasta was not quite enough to bring home the ‘Golden Scoop,’ we are proud to know that our combined effort will go toward feeding so many families in need – we look forward to participating in future Food Bank for Westchester events in the coming months and doing our part to support the communities where we live and work.

The generation fuel mix of electricity in the Northeast Census division of the United States has shifted dramatically over the past 10 years. In the nine Northeast states, natural gas nearly doubled its share of the region’s total generation to 41% in 2016, up from 23% in 2006. Coal-fired generation fell from 31% to 11% of generation over the same period. Nuclear-powered generation as a share of total generation remained relatively constant near 34%. Despite more than doubling over the same period, the share of nonhydro renewables remains relatively small. Overall, total generation in the region declined by 3% between 2006 and 2016.
Increased access to low-cost natural gas from the Marcellus Shale and other regional shale plays has driven the switch away from coal in the Northeast United States. Environmental policies at the federal and regional level, such as production tax credits, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, and renewable portfolio standards, have also contributed to the decline in coal generation. Pennsylvania continues to be a leading coal generator nationally, despite falling by 31%, or 68 million kilowatthours (kWh)…

Agera Energy is very proud of the team we have – a group of individuals working together to achieve a common goal. It is with that in mind that we were delighted to have NY Yankees manager Joe Girardi as a guest speaker at our most recent employee appreciation luncheon. Joe Girardi is heading into his 10th season as manager of the New York Yankees. Joe was a member of three World Series winning teams as a player. As a manager, he guided the Yankees to a World Series championship in 2009. He also won the NL Manager of the Year in 2006 with the Florida Marlins. Joe knows how to win. He also knows how to lead a team toward a collective goal. Girardi discussed with the Agera team the importance of working together, putting any individual differences aside and doing what’s best for the organization to thrive. He explained we all come from different backgrounds, different cultures, different viewpoints but it’s important to remember that we are all working towards one goal. Joe also expressed the importance of laughter and having fun, enjoying what you are doing. He spoke about being positive even when things weren’t going well. Keep pushing and doing what’s right and eventually, things will move in the right direction. WFAN Sports Radio 66 and 101-9 FM’s own Sweeny Murti was on hand to emcee the event which also gave Agera team members the chance to ask Joe questions pertaining to his time as a player as well as a manager. The day concluded with autographs and pictures for everyone in attendance. It was a valuable experience for everyone that attended to listen and learn from this accomplished leader and manager. The Agera team thanks Joe Girardi, Sweeny Murti and WFAN for this great event. For photos from this event Click Here >>

Agera Energy’s Information Technology (IT) team held its first ever Agera Hack-a-Thon competition on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the corporate office in Briarcliff Manor, New York. The Hack-a-Thon was a competition amongst the members of the IT department. The event consisted of 3 ½ hours of solving programming problems in the site www.hackerrank.com.
The competition provided a challenging learning event that was fun for all. Here’s some feedback from the event:
FUN – what is more exciting for a programmer than solving challenging problems?
GLORY – there is the glory of ranking high in the group – there was a Leaderboard and each person participating was ranked based on the number of problems solved and the level of complexity of each problem.
COMMUNITY – doing this together allowed the IT group to discuss and learn from each other after the event was done.
LEARNING – the challenges spike interest in new algorithms and ways of solving problems. It also taught the team new techniques and functions that may not know been known before. Often the way to learn something new is by doing it.
The winner of this year’s Agera Energy competition was: Liz Langlois, Luke Hendricks, and Leonard Abbott.
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to the entire IT team for challenging yourselves, honing your skills, learning new techniques and having fun. Agera Energy is proud of all of you!
